Main duties of the job

As part of this developing service you will help support older adults with functional mental health issues to meet increased needs / rising risk to support admission avoidance and provide home treatment with a Home First approach to support. You will work with a new and growing team, the existing community services and the established Dementia Admission avoidance services across Mid and South Essex.

Job responsibilities

To work as a senior Occupational Therapist delivering Occupational Therapy interventions to Older People in the Community to support admission avoidance and provide home treatment. Responsible for ensuring that the values outlined in the NHS Constitution are adhered to daily and any matters of concern are raised with the relevant Line Manager or through the necessary processes within the Trust. Responsible for delivering a compassionate, dignified and respectful service to patients at all times.

Qualifications

Essential

• Registered Occupational Therapist.
• Degree or Diploma in Occupational Therapy.

Desirable

• Additional relevant qualifications, e.g. counselling, dementia care mapping, normal movement, etc.

Knowledge

Essential

• Appropriate assessment techniques.
• Advanced/working knowledge of pathology and occupation in its widest sense, e.g. Mental Health, musculoskeletal, neurological, sensory impairment, the impact of the aging process on function.
• Theories of group work.
• Research methods including critical evaluation of evidence.
• Models of supervision.
• Learning theory.
• Working knowledge of the prescription of aids and adaptations to independent living.
• Risk assessment particularly in relation to home assessments.
