You will deliver autonomous OT clinical care for sub-acute neuro rehab patients, work within an MDT, and lead complex rehabilitation planning.

Your role includes advanced assessments, caseload management, supervision of students and junior staff, and driving service improvement through audit and research.

Job description

The purpose of this post is to provide a high standard of Occupational Therapy service undertaking all aspects of clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner.

You will work as part of a defined team of therapy staff at the Neuro Rehabilitation centre at Goole and district hospital.

You will be based within the Neurorehabilitation Centre (NRC) at Goole and District Hospitals (GDH). Here you will provide Occupational Therapy input for patients admitted for sub-acute rehabilitation following neurological injury/illness and for those requiring complex rehabilitation. In this role there is an opportunity to support individuals to reach their maximum potential and to support them with a safe discharge as part of a wider MDT.

As a Senior Occupational Therapist, you will provide a range of interventions to aid rehabilitation, maintenance and long term management, using your occupational therapy core skills, looking at activities of daily living, role, and routine, provide active rehabilitation, assistive devices and assessment for referral on for major adaptations where there is identified need. You will work as part of this integrated team of Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, and support staff. You will be expected to participate in all aspects of team work supporting triage of referrals, delegation of tasks and offering support to the wider team on specific issues within your skill set, alongside carrying your own caseload.

Perform advanced Occupational Therapy assessment of patients with diverse presentations and complex physical and psychological conditions. Use advanced clinical reasoning skills to provide a diagnosis and to develop and deliver an individualised treatment programme.

Responsible for managing own caseload and a defined area of the service, working without direct supervision.

Supervise, educate and assess students, assistants and Band 5 staff and provide specialised advice to other health care professionals in the specific clinical area.

Undertake evidence-based audit and research projects to further develop own clinical practice and development of the service area. Make recommendations on changes to practice to the clinical lead/manager. May lead the implementation of specific changes to practice or contribute to development of service protocols.
