You will be HCPC registered, passionate about working with people with neurological conditions to support their rehabilitation, condition management and maximise their quality of life.

You’ll work in partnership with residents and carers to set realistic goals and develop collaborative intervention plans, with regular reviews to monitor progress and adapt.

Working as a member of the transdisciplinary team, you’ll ensure that high quality individualised care is delivered, which ensures safety and a commitment to promoting recovery, wellbeing, and maximising independence/quality of life.

You will be familiar with the use of outcome measures such as FIM/FAM, CRS-R, WHIM and TOMS, and have experience in managing a designated caseload using knowledge of relevant Occupational Therapy theory. You’ll also have practical experience of completing assessments, planning, implementing evidence-based Occupational Therapy interventions, and evaluating outcomes aligned to care plans.

With a strong emphasis on teamwork, you’ll receive support from a regional network of healthcare professionals and enjoy access to a wide variety of training courses to support you reaching your career goals.

As an Occupational Therapist you will be:

  • Completing neurological assessments, treatment planning and interventions
  • Rehabilitation interventions to improve function and independence with ADLs
  • Cognitive assessment/rehabilitation
  • Using of therapeutic handling skills
  • Assessing environment and equipment needs including specialist seating
  • Identifying ongoing needs whilst maximising quality of life
  • Liaising with community colleagues to facilitate complex discharge planning
  • Evaluating outcomes aligned to care plans
  • Supervising Occupational Therapy support staff and students
  • Implementing and develop evidence-based therapeutic activities

To be a SuccessfulOccupational Therapistyou will need:

  • Occupational Therapy profession qualification
  • At least 4 years post qualifying experience
  • Extensive and relevant post qualification clinical experience with adults who have complex needs
  • Extensive experience of applying occupational frames of reference and approaches
  • Demonstrates evidence highly effective clinical reasoning skills
  • Highly specialist knowledge of relevant assessment and treatment models
  • Knowledge of how to work with vulnerable individuals with LD&A and mental illness

Where you will be working

Gardens Neurological Centre and Jacobs Neurological Centre have a combined total of 132 beds on the same site in Sawbridgeworth (CM21 0HH), which is on the Hertfordshire and Essex border within easy travelling distance of London and Cambridge.

The two Centres deliver specialist 24-hour nursing and therapy services for people with complex long-term neurological conditions, and brain or spinal injuries who require ongoing support and assistance to maximise functional ability. Recovery is assisted wherever possible, with emphasis placed on maximising each individual's abilities, comfort and quality of life.

Each service has communal lounges, dining rooms, and all bedrooms have en-suite facilities with over 95% on single occupancy. All rooms are adapted to each resident's requirements according to their assessments and needs.
