Job Description:

Job overview

The Royal London Hospital Endoscopy Centre, St Bartholomew’s Bronchoscopy Centre, and Mile End Early Diagnosis Centre are looking for Band 3 senior nursing assistants / decontamination staff to join the existing team as we expand our services.

The main hub at RLH runs a six-day service from Monday to Saturday between 08:00 - 18:00hrs.

We are looking for people committed to Endoscopy and Gastroenterology. You should have excellent communication skills and be able to work as part of a large team. Flexibility, approachability, and a positive attitude are essential, as these are the core values of the unit.

The department opened in 2011 and is a purpose-built centre with four endoscopy rooms, a dedicated x-ray room, and a 17-bed recovery area with step-down facilities. A dedicated team of nurses practices team nursing and rotates through all areas of the department.

The decontamination unit is within the endoscopy unit, with a satellite unit at Barts Hospital. Staff will rotate to these units once trained and may occasionally cover Mile End Early Diagnosis Centre as well.

We undertake all endoscopy procedures including gastroscopy, colonoscopy, ERCP, EUS, EBUS, SpyGlass, ESD, bronchoscopy, and capsule endoscopy. The unit processes all flexible endoscopes for the Royal London site.

We have an active clinical governance group that has been running for over 10 years, and attendance and contribution are expected from staff.

We hold well-attended staff meetings and provide regular in-house training monthly, along with external training as needed.

Main duties of the job
  • Assist registered nurses in providing nursing care for endoscopy patients.
  • Demonstrate the department's philosophy of care.
  • Work under the supervision of registered nurses, taking responsibility for the procedure rooms, recovery, and admission areas.
  • Work as part of the endoscopy team.
  • Rotational work on the decontamination team, handling tasks on the clean and dirty sides at RLH and St Barts.
