Job summary

The Old Station Nursery Group is seeking a Senior Nursery Practitioner at Little Green Rascals Elvington, York. You will lead a dedicated team, mentor colleagues, and deliver high-quality early years education in line with EYFS.

This leadership role requires Level 3 Early Years qualifications or QTS and a passion for child development. You’ll support the Nursery Manager, build strong relationships with families, and promote a safe, inclusive learning environment.

Qualifications

  • Level 3 Early Years qualification or QTS is required.
  • Experience leading a nursery team and promoting EYFS quality is desirable.
  • Satisfactory DBS checks and right to work in the UK are required.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor the team to deliver high-quality early years education with energy.
  • Support the Nursery Manager to ensure smooth operations and consistent quality.
  • Promote initiative, creativity and high standards of care.
  • Build strong relationships with families, colleagues and external agencies.
  • Oversee EYFS implementation and provide engaging learning opportunities.
  • Cover nursery operations in the Manager’s absence.
  • Encourage continuous development through feedback and training.
  • Maintain a safe, inclusive environment meeting each child’s needs.

Pay:

£26,755 - £26,755 per Annum, £13.54 an hour

Working Hours:

38 hours 9.5 hours a day over 4 days.

At Little Green Rascals Elvington, we are pioneers of the Organic Day Nursery concept, which is dedicated to nurturing children naturally. Surrounded by roaming animals and Winn Wood at our doorstep, we create a comforting, home-like environment. Outside, our landscaped gardens provide daily access for our Rascals to ride bicycles and scooters, engage in mud kitchen play, explore willow tunnels, experiment with giant musical instruments, climb wooden play structures, and jump into puddles of all sizes! We're based between the village of Elvington and York, on the grounds of York Maze.

What Being a Senior Nursery Practitioner Involves

As a Senior Nursery Practitioner, you will work alongside the Nursery Manager to lead and inspire your team while delivering exceptional care and education. Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading and mentoring the team to provide high-quality early years education with passion and energy.
  • Supporting the Nursery Manager to ensure smooth nursery operations and consistent quality.
  • Acting as a role model by promoting initiative, creativity, and high standards of care.
  • Building strong relationships with families, colleagues, and external agencies to support the best outcomes for children.
  • Overseeing the team’s implementation of the EYFS framework, ensuring engaging learning opportunities.
  • Taking charge of nursery operations in the Nursery Manager’s absence.
  • Encouraging continuous improvement through feedback and supporting professional development.
  • Maintaining a safe, inclusive, and stimulating environment that meets each child’s needs.
