Senior Nurse Practitioner with Non-Medical Prescribing responsibility

An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Hastings and Rother Assessment and Treatment Service (ATS) soon to be part of the Hastings and Rother Neighbourhood Teams (NMHT), for an experienced Registered Nurse looking to advance their career or a registered Non-Medical Prescriber (NMP) seeking a new opportunity. Our NMHTs will bring together the existing Primary Care and VCSE service for mental health (Emotional Wellbeing Service), Specialist Community based mental health services (ATS and Specialist Older Adults Mental Health Services) and Access Facilitators to create a new multidisciplinary service.See more about our vision https://www.sussex.ics.nhs.uk/our-work/our-priorities/mental-health-learning-disability-and-autism/mental-health/community-mh-transformation/

You will have opportunities to work alongside and be part of a varied multidisciplinary (MDT) and multiagency team. The NMP role will be central in ensuring evidence-based treatments for service users who may have multiple and enduring mental health needs.We are seeking experienced nurses willing to undertake their NMP training. The service will fund training with the expectation that training and registration will be completed within a 12 month period from the date of employment. Progression into the role will be contingent on timely registration. Newly registered and registered NMPs will need to have prior experience of working within a community mental health setting.

Main duties of the job

The role of the NMP will be to provide specialist clinical interventions to service users. It also involves delivery of leadership activities within the team.

Undertaking the assessment, planning and delivery of direct patient care at an advanced level with minimal supervision, ensuring continuity of practice and working within an MDT and multi-agency environment.Medication review and prescribing and the provision of up to date and accurate prescribing adviceProvide clinical leadership and oversight of referrals, assessment and caseload management. Management and mentorship of clinical staff as required in line with the NMC Code of Conduct and the Trust's line management policies and procedures.Ensuring that systems are in place to co-ordinate information about the take up of the services/treatment pathways and to establish unmet needs and action plans to address those.Undertake other duties delegated by the Operational Manager in keeping with the scope and authority of the job description.Ensure through effective leadership and management, continuous service development, improvement, and high-quality service delivery.To work closely and in partnership with colleagues within our NMHT, Primary Care and their community partner and VSCE organisations in a collaborative way, ensuring that decisions are made that ensure the best care for service users and that there is a seamless pathwayRespond to and effectively manage complaints and incidents within the team.

Knowledge/Skill/ExperienceEssentialPost registration experience working with individuals with complex mental health needs as a Nurse or Non-Medical Nurse PrescriberExperience of working confidently as an independent prescriberClinical audit including audit of prescribing as well as working knowledge of appropriate assessment tools and outcome measures for secondary careDemonstrate effective independent risk assessment and risk management experienceKnowledge of the key drivers behind community mental health care and the need for transformationKnowledge of national standards that inform practice (eg National Service Frameworks, NICE guidelines)

Ability to communicate and receive complex and emotive information with staff, service users, carers and other stakeholdersAn understanding of effective systems for integrated governance and the management of clinical and non-clinical risksLine management of clinical and/or non-clinical staffExperience in a clinical team in NHS within mental health

Person Specification
Qualifications
  • Registered Nurse with current registration (mental health / LD/ Adult) appropriate to the job role.
  • Degree/diploma level supplemented by specialist qualification, training, experience, courses to masters level equivalent relevant to the care group
  • Evidence of post registration training in relevant service area
  • Completion of Mentorship Course/ENB equivalent, be up to date with Supporting Learners in Practice (SLIP) Training
  • Supplementary/Independent Non-Medical Prescribing Module (level 3) or willingness to train in (through trust support and sponsorship)
  • Quality Improvement Training
