If you are ready to be a Senior Nuclear Safety Engineer, we would love you to join our team. We seek individuals with strong technical and communication skills, who thrive on solving complex nuclear and defence safety problems and enjoy working in multidisciplinary project teams. Your purpose:

You will help us deliver major defence-related programmes across the UK, involving design and construction of infrastructure, life extensions, upgrades, operations, and decommissioning. Your involvement will include safety case support, such as:

  • Shaping the nuclear safety case strategy.
  • Ensuring safety-informed design through collaboration with project partners.
  • Engaging stakeholders to facilitate ‘Right First Time’ delivery.
  • Conducting safety assessments and analyses.
  • Producing safety reports and technical documents.

Your office base may be in Bristol, Manchester, Aldershot, Silchester, or Glasgow, with flexibility for work location as needed.

Responsibilities:

You will support safety case activities throughout the design and operational life of facilities, ensuring compliance with Licence and Authorization Conditions. Your technical leadership will typically include:

  • Hazard and Fault Identification Studies (e.g., HAZID, HAZOP, FMEA).
  • Hazard Analysis (Qualitative and Quantitative).
  • Radiological Hazard Assessments.
  • Safety Case Report production.
  • ALARP Assessments.
  • Support for Engineering Substantiation.
  • Engagement with regulatory bodies (e.g., ONR, DNSR).
  • Development and review of Safety Management Arrangements.
  • Leading Safety Case activities and teams.

As a Senior Nuclear Safety Engineer, you will also:

  • Mentor junior staff.
  • Assist in bids and proposals.
  • Implement safety initiatives.
  • Build relationships within AtkinsRéalis, clients, and partners.

Additional qualifications include:

  • Honours Degree in physics, mechanical engineering, or related (minimum 2:1).
  • Chartered status or working towards it.
  • Experience in nuclear/defence domains with sound engineering judgment.
  • High-quality technical report writing skills.
  • Leadership experience in technical teams.
  • Motivation to meet delivery and cost targets.
  • Awareness of technical limitations and collaborative support.
  • Eligibility for Security Clearance.
