Life Unlimited. At Smith+Nephew, we craft and manufacture technology that takes the limits off living!

We have a great opportunity to join our New Product Introduction team as a Senior NPI Manufacturing Engineer. You'll contribute to the development of our next-generation wound care products, making a significant impact not just on S+N, but more importantly, on our customers!

What does the life of an NPI Manufacturing Engineer look like?

It's product and process development, straddling the early design concepts versus the operations and manufacturing processes. While one speaks to the art of the possible, this role will act as an anchor, guiding early product design phases and delivering a manufacturing process that will produce our products to specification, but do so efficiently. It will require innovation, thought, teamwork, and leadership. After all, how can we produce innovative products without innovative processes?

What will you be doing?

  1. Provide technical guidance to project and technical teams to ensure all new products introduced into the Wound franchise from NPD are designed for manufacture.
  2. Act as a subject matter expert within our Wound franchise for the Design transfer process, ensuring medical devices that are transferred into Operations are compliant and value-adding.
  3. Ensure that the end product meets or exceeds business expectations in terms of market need, quality, manufacturability, cost, and availability.
  4. Influence New Product Development under guidance from our senior team, using the design transfer process.
  5. Ensure alignment to project timelines and find opportunities to accelerate time-to-market while maintaining project deliverables.

What will you need to be successful?

Our successful candidate will be educated in a relevant engineering background, such as a B.ENG degree or equivalent experience or Higher National Certificate. You will have previous experience in an engineering bias role with an understanding of and passion for the manufacturing process. Experience with NPI and supplier relationship management would be advantageous, however not crucial.
