Job Description: Senior NPD Process Technologist

The Cake Crew, the UK's largest independent provider of cupcakes, is seeking an experienced Senior NPD Process Technologist to join our expanding team. This opportunity arises due to career development within the team.

Role Overview:

You will support the NPD, Production, and Commercial functions to ensure products move smoothly from launch to full-scale production. Your responsibilities include managing the transition from kitchen samples to large-scale production, facilitating trial meetings, capturing trial data for product reproducibility, and supporting sample requirements for customers and couriers.

Person Profile:

• Preferably educated to degree level or equivalent experience
• Experience in a process technologist role within the food industry, ideally bakery
• Knowledge of bakery ingredient functionality
• Understanding of HACCP principles; Level 3 qualification minimum
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
• Proficient in Microsoft Office
• Food Hygiene Qualified
• Flexible approach to work

Key Responsibilities:

1. Assist in creating trial paperwork and plans for product trials
2. Coordinate with planning to ensure trials are executed correctly, liaising with departments like engineering
3. Conduct factory trials, including packaging trials, and record detailed data such as machine settings, mixing methods, weights, and bake profiles
4. Collect and manage samples for shelf life, nutrition, quality assurance, and customer sign-off
5. Ensure raw materials comply with traceability requirements
6. Manage raw materials and equipment post-trial, ensuring proper storage and disposal
7. Compile trial reports and share findings with the team
8. Lead microbiology and nutritional sample testing, maintaining logs and results
9. Collaborate with engineering to understand machine capabilities
10. Participate in internal and customer meetings as needed
11. Support administrative tasks related to NPD activities and product launches
12. Coordinate sample collection for retailers and manage related documentation
13. Arrange courier services and raise purchase orders as required
14. Support team workload and ad hoc projects
15. Ensure compliance with food safety, quality, and legal policies
