Job summary

The Sun Online is the UK’s leading mobile news brand and part of News UK. We are seeking a Senior Reporter/Junior Assistant News Editor to help grow our award-winning digital desk and lead major stories with agility and flair.

You will mentor reporters, manage freelancers, and develop exclusive content while using data and analytics to drive performance across platforms, including video with the newsroom team. Flexibility to work nights and weekends is required.

Qualifications

Previous experience working at a national newsdesk level.
Experience of running multiple reporters at once and work calmly under pressure.
Knowledge of and experience in using recognised search tools, analytics and video.
Proven experience leading news operations on occasion and a track record of exclusives.
Solid contacts with agencies and freelancers around the UK and internationally.
Must have flair and an ability to spot the hidden potential in stories.
Be unflappable under pressure and work at a consistently high standard.
Positive attitude and a good team player.
Can demonstrate an understanding of The Sun brand, across digital, print, video and social.
Flexibility to work shift patterns across 7 days.

Responsibilities

Assist Head of Digital News in leading a team of reporters.
Manage reporters and freelancers on big stories on the ground.
Oversee tips, exclusives and original content ideas from start to finish to an excellent standard.
Work with audience and homepage teams to optimise stories for every platform.
Be brimming with agenda-driven ideas, strong exclusives and Sun-style content.
Contribute to The Sun’s off-diary operation and improve content quality and quantity.
Drive growth through data-led decision-making and analytics.
Collaborate with our video team to bring video to the heart of storytelling.
Liaise with agencies and freelancers to stay ahead of the competition.
Help train and develop our young reporters and maximise their potential.
Lead the news operation as required, including nights and weekends.
