Job description
Overview

As a senior network engineer you would be expected to have a good working knowledge of the following network technologies: Cisco ASA, Palo Alto Firewalls, Big IP (F5), Network Protocols, Cisco Switching, Routing, Security and wireless technologies, and Knowledge of Virtual Environments and virtual network solutions (e.g. VMware, Azure).

Responsibilities
  • Design, configure and implement solutions to meet business requirements.
  • Work effectively under pressure to deadlines, with rapidly changing priorities and workloads.
  • Collaborate with project managers, developers, incident and problem managers, and external suppliers; translate technical terminology and build trusted relationships.
  • Communicate clearly and with authority, whether optimising systems, escalating service issues, or producing high- and low-level documentation.
  • Oversee IT operations to protect critical systems and services.
  • Develop and lead a team of engineers by setting direction, coaching individuals, and driving high performance; balance people management with hands-on technical work.
  • Prioritise day-to-day tasks, ensure requirements are met, and resolve incidents quickly; bring expertise and initiative for complex or unprecedented issues.
  • Identify patterns, address recurring issues, and recommend process improvements to raise the standard of technical services.
  • Mentor junior colleagues, share expertise, and support senior engineers while maintaining personal professional growth.
  • Build solutions in secure, complex environments and across firewalls, cloud platforms, and related infrastructure; produce documentation and report on key performance measures.
  • Adapt and develop skills continually; contribute to the growth of the team and organisation.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Strong working knowledge of Cisco ASA, Palo Alto Firewalls, Big IP (F5), network protocols, Cisco switching/routing/security/wireless technologies, and virtual environments (VMware, Azure).
  • Experience designing, configuring, and implementing network solutions aligned with business requirements.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure, manage priorities, and deliver under deadlines.
  • Leadership experience with the ability to mentor, coach, and develop engineers while handling hands-on technical work.
  • Clear communication skills to translate technical terminology for different stakeholders and produce high- and low-level documentation.
  • Comfort working in secure environments and familiarity with public-sector security and vetting processes; willingness to undergo Developed Vetting (DV) clearance.
