Job description

We are seeking a highly skilled and versatile Senior Network Engineer to join our client in Warrington, Cheshire.

Please note that due to the nature of the role, active SC clearance is required.

The role holder will possess expertise in hybrid environments (on-prem, Azure, SASE).

The role involves leading the design, implementation, and maintenance of resilient network infrastructure to ensure optimal reliability, scalability, and performance.

Work Pattern: Hybrid (approx. 1 day per week, office/data centre based)

Location: Warrington

Working days: Mon to Fri, 9am - 5pm

Duration: 60 days with potential extensions

Rate: £65-£68 per hour inside IR35

Responsibilities

1. Work across BAU operations and projects & programmes
2. Design and deploy functional networks (LAN, WLAN, WAN)
3. Configure and install software and network devices
4. Monitor network performance and integrity
5. Resolve support issues by troubleshooting cloud and local infrastructure
6. Automate tasks and monitor their effectiveness
7. Create, oversee, and test security measures (e.g., access authentication, disaster recovery)
8. Communicate with users as needed
9. Maintain complete technical documentation
10. Suggest improvements to network performance, capacity, and scalability
11. Train and mentor team members for cross-training and skilling

Experience & Skills

1. 5+ years of experience in a large enterprise estate (5,000+ users)
2. Professional certifications such as CCNP or CCDP
3. Strong background in network administration and architecture
4. In-depth understanding of communication protocols (TCP/IP) and routing protocols (BGP)
5. Familiarity with access control models and network security
6. Knowledge of scripting languages (Python, Perl) is advantageous
7. Experience with network diagnostic and monitoring tools (e.g., SolarWinds)
8. Solid understanding of network operating systems (Cisco NX-OS, IOS-XE)
9. Proven experience with Palo Alto firewalls (Panorama, PAN-OS, LSVPN)
10. Skills and experience with F5 and Cisco Meraki
11. Highly developed troubleshooting skills
