Forward Role is working alongside one of the largest private pension schemes in the UK, serving over 500,000 members from the higher education sector. The scheme includes both defined benefit and defined contribution components, offering security and flexibility for members. They are now seeking a Senior Network Engineer to join the team.

This role is a key part of the Network and Security Team. The team’s main responsibilities include supporting, maintaining, developing, and deploying new and existing technologies within the company's network and security platform. The role involves assisting with technical projects and collaborating with other technology teams to implement new infrastructure tools. The successful candidate will also serve as the technical escalation point for the IT team during critical incidents, both during and outside regular hours.

Responsibilities

1. Monitor network performance and troubleshoot issues on LAN and WAN.
2. Plan, implement, manage, monitor, and upgrade security measures to protect data, systems, and networks.
3. Test, document, and identify vulnerabilities in network and security infrastructure.
4. Remediate vulnerabilities through patching and updates as part of maintenance programs for Network and Security platforms.
5. Configure and manage Firewall solutions, working closely with the Cyber Security Analyst to ensure compliance and security.
6. Deliver project tasks on time and within scope set by IT management and project teams.
7. Collaborate with Monitoring and Compliance Analysts to develop and implement monitoring systems.
8. Assist with asset management in coordination with the Configuration Manager.
9. Work with the business to schedule maintenance windows and develop patching and maintenance strategies aligned with security policies.
10. Develop and oversee IT security technology solutions with the Cyber Security Analyst.
11. Act as the technical escalation point for engineers during and outside business hours as needed.

Technical Skills Requirements

• Extensive experience with enterprise-grade Next Generation Firewalls, VPNs, Data Centre Routing and Switching, Campus Switching, Network Segmentation, and Wireless Controllers.
• Deep understanding of IP Mobility, Load Balancing, and High Availability techniques.
• Experience managing multi-site networks; knowledge of security products such as Network Access Control and network monitoring tools; experience in technical project delivery and planning.
