Job summary

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is seeking a Network Development Engineer to build and operate the world’s largest cloud networking infrastructure in London. You will define technical direction, design scalable network architectures, and drive automation to reduce manual operations while ensuring reliability for our internal and external customers.

You’ll mentor engineers, lead major programs, and influence the tools and patterns used across AWS networks.

Qualifications

• Experience scripting in one or more language (e.g. Bash, Python, Perl, Ruby) to support automation and ops.
• Knowledge of IP networking fundamentals such as BGP, OSPF and other routing/switching technologies.
• A relevant degree in a related technical discipline or equivalent experience in a large-scale network environment.

Key job responsibilities

An NDE is responsible for ensuring all network fabrics and devices are operating as expected. An NDE will utilise their networking skills along with available tools and services to troubleshoot and resolve any issues that have not been remediated through automation and to identify the root cause. They are expected to invent, refine and develop new automation and tools to reduce manual operations and fulfil the requirements of the business and customers.

The Network Development team drives engineering, implementation, scalability, operations, reliability, and sustainability for all of the network fabrics that underpin the software services and platforms used within an AWS region.

Basic Qualifications

• Experience scripting in one or more language (e.g. Bash, Python, Perl, Ruby), or experience in Unix




• Knowledge of IP networking fundamentals such as BGP, OSPF and other R&S technologies




• A relevant degree in a related technical discipline or equivalent experience in a large–scale network environment.




• Experience developing engineering, deployment, or operations mechanisms to support IP networking systems.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience architecting/operating solutions built on AWS




• Experience prioritizing and handling multiple assignments at any given time while maintaining commitment to deadlines, or experience completing complex tasks quickly with little to no guidance and react with appropriate urgency to situations that require a quick turnaround




• Thorough understanding of TCP/IP networking, IP routing, Server Load Balancing, and Network Security architecture and core technologies such as IP, TCP, OSPF, BGP, MPLS, Server Load Balancers, Firewalls, ACLs, DNS, DHCP, LDAP etc.
