Job summary

Amazon.com is seeking a Systems Development Engineer to join the Systems Development team in the UK. You will help deploy, manage, fix and reinvent software tools and services that power the AWS network, collaborating with network engineers to automate and operate at scale.

The role focuses on automating operational tasks, developing production-grade tooling, and solving real-world problems in a global, agile environment. UK national security clearance is required.

Qualifications

  • Simplifying and reinventing systems, processes, and tools to make things better for our customers
  • Developing and growing innovative, production-quality tools to solve real operational problems for our network
  • Investigating technical issues scientifically and thoroughly, and assist in fixing them so they don't repeat
  • Providing technical solutions to real business problems in a global organization
Key job responsibilities

A SysDE is responsible for maintaining their team's services, requiring them to troubleshoot and identify the root cause of issues that arise within their systems. They will utilize existing testing, monitoring, and validation tools on their services and infrastructure to ensure their team can continuously deploy new versions with minimal interruption. A SysDE will contribute to automation improvements and tools to reduce manual operations, to fulfill the requirements of the business and their customers.

The Systems Development team manages all of the software services and platforms that builds, operates, monitors and assures the AWS network within entire regions. We design and implement automation and new software solutions to improve operational efficiency on behalf of our Network Engineer customers. Basic Qualifications
  • Experience programming with at least one modern language such as Python, Ruby, Golang, Java, C++, C#, Rust
  • Familiarity with Linux, using the command line and basic administration, and computer networking fundamentals
  • Able to troubleshoot at all levels, from network to operating systems to software applications and experience supporting cloud systems or other services.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Python
  • Experience of designing, developing or operating cloud services running on AWS or another cloud platform
