Job summary

The Department for Education seeks a Senior Network Infrastructure Engineer to design, build, operate and support IT network resources across cloud (Azure) and on‑prem environments. You will focus on topology, connectivity and boundary controls, and help modernise deployment and management of network resources.

You will work in a collaborative, highly technical team, driving improvements, incident response and automation initiatives while engaging with third‑party suppliers and internal

Qualifications

• Experience building, configuring, operating and maintaining network infrastructure resources including switches and wireless devices.
• Experience using automation to configure network services and extract information (Python/PowerShell/Bicep).
• Experience administering boundary and security controls to protect cloud services (firewalls, WAFs).
• Ability to diagnose IT infrastructure problems and identify root causes across multiple tech areas.
• Experience with incident and problem management processes to resolve patterns and prevent recurrence.

Responsibilities

• Input into management plans for technology roadmaps, projects, workforce and budgets.
• Build, operate and maintain network resources across on‑premises and cloud environments.
• Respond to incidents and service requests to identify and resolve delivery issues.
• Identify patterns in incidents and collaborate to resolve problems.
• Automate deployment and management tasks for network resources where possible.
• Promote user‑centric, agile delivery of high‑quality services.
• Collaborate with third‑party suppliers providing network infrastructure services.
• Share knowledge to grow awareness and inclusivity within the team.
