Senior Naval Architect – Portsmouth - Permanent – Competitive £

A leading, forward-thinking maritime company that strives to enhance marine industry sustainability through innovative technology and create positive environmental, social, and economic impacts is recruiting a Senior Naval Architect to join its team in Portsmouth.

Duties will include:

  • You will design and develop ship structures and overall ship designs in accordance with international regulations and Classification Society standards, collaborating with shipyards and design offices to ensure the successful implementation of designs.
  • You will develop and design various vessel systems, taking into account structural and general design considerations, creating and managing the approval process for class-required drawings related to ship structures and auxiliary systems.
  • You will prepare statutory technical documentation, including visibility plans and navigational lights plans, ensuring all work meets appropriate standards and levels of detail, aligned with contracted deliverables and tracked against agreed timelines.

To be considered for this position, you will have:

  • Knowledge of international ship regulations and Classification Society rules, with proven experience in general ship design and ship structures design, including work experience in a shipyard or design office.
  • Experience in the development and design of various vessel systems.
  • An openness to learning and embracing new tool sets and working methodologies, along with strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and commercial awareness to ensure work is completed to a high standard and within agreed timelines.
  • A genuine interest in innovative ideas and technologies for decarbonisation in the maritime industry, and an understanding of hydrodynamics and stability principles in ship design, along with familiarity with materials science and the selection of appropriate materials for shipbuilding.
