We’re seeking a Senior Motor Trade Underwriter to join our Commercial Lines Team.

This role will contribute to the profitable development of the Midlands, North, and Scotland Region, as well as the wider Mid Market Business. Responsibilities include case underwriting new business risks and actively managing existing business portfolios. We are looking for someone with extensive underwriting experience and a proven ability to build and develop broker relationships.

We operate on a hybrid basis, with our office based in Manchester two days per week and three days from home (flexibility may be required).

What will I be doing?
  • Profitably developing and underwriting bespoke commercial lines motor trade risks within Covéa Insurance’s underwriting criteria, including on-site underwriting in broker offices.
  • Managing the collection and delivery of motor trade accounts for the region.
  • Developing and maintaining mutually beneficial relationships with Mid-Market brokers as their nominated development relationship underwriter for motor trade products.
  • Supporting Covéa’s commercial lines account by engaging with regional brokers to foster new and existing relationships.
  • Prospecting and contributing to the team’s growth targets by optimizing sales and retention.
  • Maintaining accurate audit trails using Covéa Insurance’s systems, practices, and procedures.
  • Underwriting within Covéa’s strategy and authority limits; referring cases outside of strategy or individual limits.
  • Maintaining and striving to exceed service levels for internal and external customers.
  • Keeping up-to-date with the commercial lines market, regional broking marketplace, and relevant legislation and litigation.
  • Providing technical assistance, taking referrals, and guiding colleagues.
What would we like to see in you?
  • Experience in underwriting and trading commercial motor products.
  • Detailed knowledge of the broker market.
  • Proven relationship management skills.
  • Ability to meet and exceed personal and team objectives.
  • Awareness of market and legal/industry developments.
  • Minimum Cert CII; Dip CII or progress towards is preferred.
  • Proven effective trading skills, including prospecting and optimizing new business and retention.
  • A decisive approach to underwriting.
  • Excellent communication skills to promote Covéa Insurance products and influence outcomes.
  • Good problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team to achieve goals.
