Job description

24 hours a day, 365 days a year we serve 4.8 million households and business across the heart of the UK. Each cuppa drank and every toilet flushed is only possible because of the 6,500 brilliant team members working across our patch.

We welcome people from all walks of life and celebrate individuality. We know diverse minds, experiences and backgrounds help us to learn and better serve our customers and the communities where they live.

We’re looking for a Senior Modeller to join our River Health team at our Coventry office.

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW

As our Senior Modeller, you’ll be responsible for assessing and developing initial options to reduce storm overflow spills across the wastewater network and treatment systems. This includes contributing to the introduction of innovative solutions and expanding the range of tools available for spill reduction, with a focus on rapid and widespread implementation.

You’ll carry out option development assessments for specific sites, ensuring delivery within agreed timescales and feasibility budgets. Your work will involve reviewing and updating hydraulic models, managing survey data, and analysing results to inform decision-making. You will also oversee project-specific hydraulic modelling requirements, including model audits and fitness-for-use assessments.

In addition to technical responsibilities, you will support the wider River Health Team by providing expert guidance and helping to build the technical capabilities of team members. This includes developing and implementing advanced modelling processes for cutting-edge solutions such as real-time control of gates and pumping stations, as well as large-scale Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS) deployment.

Key accountabilities will include:

  • Model conceptual designs to develop innovative, efficient TOTEX solutions, collaborating with internal and external teams from concept to delivery.
  • Assess wastewater network performance to identify and validate risks and needs.
  • Investigate root causes and mechanisms of network issues.
  • Manage hydraulic modelling across multiple projects, coordinating with model maintenance, asset planning, and delivery teams.
  • Assess model suitability; scope, procure, and manage asset, flow, and catchment surveys.
  • Build, update, and verify models to meet Severn Trent Water design standards.
  • Conduct historical verification by engaging with customers and operational teams to understand system performance.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO THE ROLE

We’re looking for a skilled hydraulic modeller with strong experience using InfoWorks ICM and associated GIS tools, including the ability to carry out model audits and verification for complex assets and hydrology. You’ll need a solid understanding of hydraulic principles and model limitations, along with the ability to build and manage integrated 1D/2D and full 2D catchment-wide models using various runoff and river modules.

The ideal candidate will have experience in Drainage and Wastewater Management Planning (DWMP), Sewerage Management Planning, and Drainage Area Planning. You’ll also have a good understanding of wastewater network and treatment works design, operation, and maintenance is essential, as is the ability to manage and analyse large-scale monitoring data to identify risks and inform decision-making.

We’re seeking a forward-thinking and proactive individual with strong analytical and diagnostic skills, capable of anticipating challenges and developing effective solutions. You’ll be innovative in your approach, continuously seeking opportunities for improvement, and confident in influencing at all levels. Excellent communication and relationship-building skills are essential, along with the ability to credibly advise, guide, and constructively challenge when needed.

WHAT’S IN IT FOR YOU

Working here isn’t just a job. You can build a career at Severn Trent. We’ll reward you for it, too. We have a range of benefits that recognise great work, and award-winning training to help you reach your potential. And we’ll also help you play your part in looking after the environment and the communities where we live.
