Job summary

Zopa in London is hiring a hands-on Data Scientist to join the growing data science team focused on credit risk and consumer decisions. You will build and improve models, work with Credit Strategy, Product and Engineering, and own end-to-end analysis.

The role is hybrid with 2-3 days in the London office; you may work remotely abroad up to 120 days per year, with a strong emphasis on collaboration, clear communication, and practical impact.

Qualifications

• Hands-on data science experience.
• Practical Python and Git capabilities.
• Understand ML models for classification and regression.
• Sound statistical fundamentals (hypothesis testing, experimental design).
• Independently translate ambiguous problems into models/analyses.
• Clear communication with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Build alignment when views differ; work collaboratively to move forward.
• Curious, practical, self-directed; operate with limited hand-holding.
• Collaborate across business, Product and Engineering.

Responsibilities

• Translate ambiguous credit questions into practical models and analyses.
• Build, improve and maintain models for consumer-credit decisions.
• Work on flagship risk models and related value-driver models (revenue, profit, CLV).
• Use Python and statistical judgement to develop classification/regression solutions.
• Partner with Credit Strategy to identify priorities and create useful solutions.
• Collaborate with Product and Engineering to sequence work and productionize.
• Explain technical choices clearly and move decisions forward.
• Own problems and delivery within a collaborative team.
