Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • Education to A level standard or equivalent
  • GCSE English and Maths (C and above) or equivalent
  • Evidence of personal development

Desirable criteria

  • MHA qualification (Certificate level)
  • Business Administration qualification

Experience

Essential criteria

  • At least two year's administrative experience
  • Experience of MHA administration

Desirable criteria

  • Experience of patient records management
  • Experience of supervising staff

Knowledge

Essential criteria

  • Full understanding of the operation of the MHA 1983 (as amended 2007) and the MHA Code of Practice
  • Knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act 2005
  • Good understanding of Freedom of Information Act, Data Protection Act and Caldicott principles, GDPR

Desirable criteria

  • Knowledge of audit processes

Skills

Essential criteria

  • Professional telephone manner
  • Good communication skills, both written and oral
  • Ability to be sensitive when communicating with patients and carers
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Good problem solving skills
  • Ability to prioritise workload
  • Close attention to detail and ability to check reports for accuracy and compliance with relevant legislation
  • Good IT skills including Word, Excel and Patient Information Systems
