Job Summary

We are looking for a registered therapist, counsellor or wellbeing practitioner to lead a team of Link Workers and counsellors to deliver person-centred, outcome-focused, evidence-based interventions for Children Looked After (CLA) experiencing moderate mental health difficulties. The role involves supporting children to improve their emotional health and resilience, aiming to meet individual desired outcomes of each referral.

Main Duties of the Job
  1. Support a team of counsellors and Link Workers in delivering person-centred, outcome-focused, evidence-based interventions for CLA with moderate mental health difficulties.
  2. Assist in designing and implementing innovative, client-focused care plans to support successful care pathways, placements, and reunifications.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments considering educational, emotional, family, and social factors.
  • Develop short-term intervention plans using behavioural, cognitive, psychodynamic, and systemic approaches.
  • Supervise team members in delivering therapeutic interventions.
  • Develop alternative therapeutic activities like group work or play therapy.
  • Maintain confidential case records securely and accurately.
  • Build links with other agencies for signposting and referrals.
  • Manage risks proactively, including safeguarding and child protection issues.
Skills & Competencies
  • Experience supervising mental health practitioners and working with children and young people in mental health settings.
  • Confident in supporting children presenting moderate risk behaviours.
  • Ability to build strong therapeutic relationships quickly.
  • Excellent communication skills with CYP, families, and professionals.
  • Committed to equality, inclusiveness, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Registration with a recognised national body (e.g., HCPC, NMC, BACP, BABCP, BASW, TRA).
  • Relevant therapy qualification, such as CBT.
  • At least 2 years of post-qualification experience in a multidisciplinary environment.
  • Knowledge of CYP development, family dynamics, and mental health principles.
Additional Requirements
  • Flexibility to adapt to service needs and willingness to travel.
  • Enhanced DBS check clearance.
  • Current UK professional registration.
