Job description

Senior Mental Health Practitioner
Salary: Up to £45,000 per annum
Part Time/Full Time: up to 40 hours per week
Location: Lufton College, Yeovil

Main duties of the job

We are looking for a creative, dynamic and enthusiastic individual to work collaboratively within our wellbeing clinical team, which includes a Consultant Psychiatrist, Speech and Language Therapist, Occupational Therapist, Holistic Therapist, School Nurse, and Integrated Therapy Assistants. The role involves supporting the emotional and mental health needs of our learners through direct or indirect therapeutic interventions, sharing knowledge via workshops and training for our care and education team.

We support students aged 16-25 with autism spectrum disorder, moderate to severe learning disabilities, and complex needs, including medical conditions. Job responsibilities
  • Provide mental health triage, basic assessments, and clinical interventions based on NICE guidance.
  • Review and meet EHCP statemented needs of students.
  • Support psychiatrists in managing students with emotional or mental health issues.
  • Assist students in crisis, model good practice, and provide short-term interventions.
  • Act as a link between care, education, and external agencies for mental health.
  • Facilitate groups promoting mental and emotional health.
  • Manage a caseload, attend multidisciplinary meetings, and contribute to reports.
  • Potentially supervise other mental health staff or students.
Candidate requirements
  • Registered with NMC (RMN/RLDN) or HCPC.
  • Minimum 2 years' experience in RMN/RNLD/HCPC roles, preferably in CAMHS or educational settings.
  • Person-centered approach with high-quality, evidence-based care.
  • Strong decision-making, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously and confidently.
Desirable qualities
  • Experience providing consultations.
