HMP Preston is a remand male prison with ages from 18+ and a capacity of 680.

The senior nurse will be managing caseloads and dealing with crisis, you will be based within the mental health team and you will also be required to see patients on the prison wings.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Mental Health Nurse to join our Mental Health team at HMP Preston, a category B Prison located in Preston.

HMP Preston is a remand male prison with ages from 18+ and a capacity of 680.

The senior nurse will be managing caseloads and dealing with crisis, you will be based within the mental health team and you will also be required to see patients on the prison wings.

Hours:

  • This role is based on 37.5 hours per week
  • Monday - Friday
  • 8.30am - 4.30pm and 12.30 - 8.30pm, after completing probation we can look at working 37.5 hours over 4 days
  • 1/4 weekends a month

Salary:

This position is full-time, you'll receive an annual salary up to £43,609 - £49,175 per annum FTE - depending on experience.

Candidates are required to have a Legal right to work in the UK on a permanent basis and due to the nature of the role, offers of employment will be subject to additional vetting and security checks.

Main Duties of the Job

As a Mental Health Clinical Lead, your responsibilities will vary. You will

  • Work as part of and lead the Mental Health team within the Integrated Healthcare Services team.
  • Provide clinical leadership and management to Registered nurses and allied health professionals.
  • Establish inter-agency working where necessary to ensure good communication increases quality of care for patients.
  • Ensure that own clinical practice is consistent with autonomous practice within the role.
  • Based on the Wellbeing Approach and Practice Plus mental Health policy, provide nursing triage and screening and assessment.
  • Actively participate with the development of local operating procedures to ensure pathways are clear for clinicians.
  • Ensure all complaints/concerns relating to Mental Health are dealt with in a timely fashion.
  • Nurse lead treatment or care within mental health.
  • Confirm waiting lists are well managed ensuring minimal waiting times for patients.
  • Medicines management/advice including supporting medicine administration.

Qualifications Required
  • Registered Mental Health Nurse - NMC.
  • BSc or equivalent qualification.
  • Experience of providing supervision.
  • Teaching/Mentoring experience and/or qualification.
  • Evidence of appropriate continuing professional development activity to maintain up-to-date knowledge and on-going competence in all aspects of the role.

Although not essential, ideal applicants would have experience in a hospital, community, or prison environment.
