The opportunity:

Are you an experienced Medical Underwriter looking for a new challenge? Zurich Corporate Risk, one of the fastest-growing group risk providers in the market, started over 10 years ago and has continued to grow. To support our growth, we are seeking a Medical Underwriter with a passion for medicine and delivering exceptional customer service.

As a Medical Underwriter, you will assess life and income protection applications and make underwriting decisions for members of new and existing Corporate schemes. You will join a small, inclusive, and supportive Underwriting Team committed to your development, offering opportunities such as training, mentoring, coaching, and specialist roles.

What will you be doing?
  • Making medical underwriting decisions within authority limits and in line with Zurich's philosophy.
  • Providing technical medical underwriting support and guidance, ensuring excellent customer service.
  • Training and supporting team members, including administrative staff and junior underwriters.
  • Staying updated with medical underwriting practices considering experience and market conditions.
  • Optimizing processes for effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Meeting key business, team, and individual KPIs.
  • Liaising with Medical Officers and reassurance companies.
  • Maintaining relationships with external distributors.
  • Handling queries and referrals, analyzing risk, and maintaining standards.
  • Monitoring processes for improvement opportunities.
  • Ensuring compliance and governance.
  • Sharing best practices and providing excellent service to customers and stakeholders.
  • Contributing to a positive team culture and supporting workload delivery.
Who are we looking for?
  • An experienced medical underwriter with protection or corporate experience.
  • Awareness of the UK corporate risk market.
  • Knowledge of medical underwriting principles, regulations, and guidelines.
  • Strong risk assessment, judgment, and decision-making skills.
  • Attention to detail and focus on quality.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to build relationships with stakeholders.
  • Passion for customer service and continuous improvement.
  • CII Diploma in Underwriting or equivalent (preferred but not essential).
