The British Society of Blood and Marrow Transplantation seeks a Senior Medical Statistician. You will lead critical statistical analysis for a wide-ranging clinical impact, manage projects, and support research initiatives aimed at improving patient outcomes in haematology and oncology.

The British Society of Blood and Marrow Transplantation and Cellular Therapy (BSBMTCT) has an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and committed Senior Medical Statistician, who will lead the statistical work of our Society and data registry.
You will provide full statistical support and analysis to meet a range of purposes including research, the statutory reporting of outcomes of stem cell transplants and other cellular therapy treatments, and the meeting of our contractual obligations to commercial partners, which generates income towards the achievement of our mission. As our partnerships become established, we anticipate that you will oversee the work of a small team of statisticians, working across partner organisations. You will work closely with the Trustees, Chief Executive, Head of Registry, data management team, sub-committees, members, investigators and commercial partners.

Main duties of the jobYou will work with the Trustees, Chief Executive, Head of the Registry, the data management team, Sub-Committees, including the Clinical Trials Sub-Committee (CTSC), individual members, investigators and commercial partners to lead our statistical work and provide full statistical support and analysis to meet a range of purposes including:
research
the statutory reporting of outcomes of stem cell transplants and other cellular therapy treatments
meeting our contractual obligations to commercial partners, generating income for BSBMTCT, for application across the wider BMTCT community
You will work with key investigators involved in complex studies which have been peer reviewed and approved by the BSBMTCT CTSC. Close liaison with the Co-Chairs of the BSBMTCT CTSC, and the Head of the BSBMTCT Data Registry will be required.
You will be required to review all study proposals from the outset and, in liaison with the Head of the BSBMTCT Data Registry, advise on feasibility of any protocols submitted for review.
This role will, in time, supervise a small team of statisticians and data analysts/scientists, working directly or within one or more partners. The BSBMTCT team works with a wide range of medical professionals across the country and in Ireland and collaborates with clinicians across Europe and the world.

We have 49 NHS and private member centres contributing data to the registry. The BSBMTCT Registry was established in March 2001 and is the UK Subset of the European Registry for Blood and Marrow Transplantation (EBMT).

Provide effective leadership and specialist statistical expertise to the wide-ranging work of the British Society of Blood and Marrow Transplantation and Cellular Therapy (BSBMTCT).
Facilitate research from accrued study data, undertaking the required data analyses with a view to publication in peer reviewed scientific journals.
Project manage statistical research projects and other BSBMTCT projects as required to meet BSBMTCTs business plan and other key work objectives.
Oversee the provision of feasibility reviews on potential new studies, both retrospective and prospective, being proposed by the BSBMTCT CTSC, including the recommendation of appropriate cohort sizes and structures of studies, so as to maximise their scientific integrity.
Assist with the reporting of studies and writing of papers for publication in peer reviewed, nationally and internationally read journals, with emphasis on the statistical aspects of such papers.
Communicate statistical/analytical/epidemiological matters clearly to data managers, statisticians, clinicians, nurses. other allied health professions and very senior colleagues.
Provide, receive, interpret and communicate very complex information in a way that is easily understandable and carries people along with you.
Communicate effectively the results of complex analyses to a range of stakeholders including individuals, and small and large groups.
Collaborate with national and international registries and bodies (especially NHSE and the other national NHS bodies) and international and global bodies such as CAN/UK/ANZ (partnership between Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and the UK) and EBMT, the European Group for Blood and Marrow Transplantation, based in Leiden and Barcelona.
Responsibility for effective line management and support, including assigning responsibility for individual tasks, providing day to day support and balancing the workloads of individuals, appraisal, staff development, staff motivation, work plans, training and supervision of other staff as required.
Management and co-ordination of work flow with Statisticians who work on our behalf for external organisations.
Responsible for engaging with pharmaceutical companies and other commercial partners to understand their requirements and deliver against agreed contracts.
