NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK, employing around 40,000 staff in a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and job roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community, and mental health care services to a population of over 1.15 million, and a wider population of 2.2 million when regional and national services are included.
Glasgow Alcohol and Drug Recovery Services provide community treatment and care to reduce harm and promote recovery. As one of the largest and most dynamic drug and alcohol service providers in Europe, we are at the forefront of service developments, including diamorphine assisted treatment, expanding access to long-acting depo treatments, and pioneering safer drug consumption and drug checking in Scotland.
The Senior Medical Officer (SMO) position offers a unique opportunity to split your time between management and clinical responsibilities. You will provide clinical leadership to the community-based medical and prescribing workforce and support managers to ensure the delivery of safe and effective alcohol and drug recovery services. Additionally, the SMO will manage a caseload of complex patients with support from a multidisciplinary team.
