Job summary

Heriot-Watt University in Scotland is seeking a Mechanical Workshop Technician/Senior Technician to support teaching and research in the EPS School. You will operate CNC mills, lathes, laser cutters and 3D printers, and assist with training undergraduates and postgraduates.

Essentials include 3–5 years post-apprenticeship, CAD/CAM knowledge, and safe, accurate fabrication skills. Grade 5/6 appointment with competitive pay, generous leave, and a strong team environment.

Qualifications

• Educated to SCQF Level 7-8, HNC/HND or equivalent in mechanical engineering.
• Completion of a recognised mechanical workshop apprenticeship and 3–5 years post-qualification experience.
• Substantial experience with CNC machines and CAD/CAM knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Operate milling machines, lathes, laser cutters and 3D printers to manufacture components for teaching and research.
• Provide high-quality technical support for teaching and research activities.
• Assist in training undergraduate and postgraduate students in workshop practices and safety.

Education

SCQF Level 7-8, HNC/HND or equivalent in mechanical engineering

Completion of a recognised mechanical workshop apprenticeship
