Job summary

Galliford Try Group is seeking a Senior Mechanical Supervisor to lead MEICA delivery across the Southern Water framework from Chichester with travel. Job description

Senior Mechanical Supervisor – Southern Water
Location: Chichester (with travel across the Southern Water framework)

We are looking for a Senior Mechanical Supervisor to play a key role in the successful delivery of projects across the Southern Water Framework.

Reporting into the project delivery team, you will lead a team of Mechanical Supervisors, ensuring the safe, efficient and high-quality delivery of electrical installation works across a portfolio of projects. Working closely with Project Managers, the MEICA team and Commissioning teams, you will help ensure works are completed to programme, quality standards and commissioning requirements.

You will oversee electrical installation activities throughout the project lifecycle, support successful project handover, and promote a collaborative, "Right First Time" approach to delivery.

What you’ll be doing:
Senior Mechanical Supervisor Responsibilities

In addition to undertaking Mechanical Supervisor duties, you will:

  • Responsible for the mechanical delivery of the assigned project portfolio
  • Ensuring a full appreciation of the MEICA requirements of the project including a full understanding of the commissioning requirements and interfaces with existing equipment and processes
  • Implement the Galliford Try Design-to-Commission & Takeover philosophy, collaborating with the Design team, integrating proposed works seamlessly into existing operations without compromising works or risking service level agreements.
  • Coordinate sufficient competent mechanical resources for projects/programs, working closely with Regional MEICA & Commissioning lead, Head of Delivery / Operations Manager(s)
  • To focus on project portfolio execution, day-to-day operations, and immediate staff supervision.
  • Line management of mechanical resource within project portfolio
  • Collaborating with HR for recruiting, interviewing, and hiring decisions
  • Assisting in identifying training needs and implementing professional development programs for the team
  • Training, mentoring, and coaching other supervisors or junior staff
  • Supporting the business Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and making recommendations to improve performance, quality, and efficiency.
  • Ensuring mechanical delivery meets with project and programme requirements across the project portfolio
  • Ensuring the mechanical quality processes is maintained
  • To promote “Right First Time” philosophy
Mechanical Supervisor Responsibilities
  • Responsible for the Mechanical installation works of the assigned project in conjunction with the Senior Mechanical Supervisor / MEICA Lead
  • Ensuring a full understanding of the Mechanical requirements of the project, including an understanding of the commissioning requirements and interfaces with existing equipment and processes
  • Support the design team in the specification of Mechanical systems and general Mechanical design issues
  • Providing supervision of Mechanical subcontractors to ensure a high level of H&S and quality and conducting snagging of Mechanical works to ensure compliance with relevant standards
  • Appointment as Mechanical Authorised Person (MAP) under the Galliford Try Mechanical Safety Rules. Undertaking mechanical isolations, controlling work on mechanical systems. Ensuring that all persons working under his or her control are competent, experienced and qualified for the task they have to perform. Ensuring that routine inspections, testing and maintenance of mechanical equipment are carried out as required. Undertaking regular mechanical site safety inspections
  • To act where appointed at Works Package Technical Specialist for mechanical packages / mechanical sub-contractors in line with the project needs and project management systems
  • Review and authorisation of RAMS for Mechanical installation works
  • Supervise Mechanical subcontractors/Mechanical works ensuring Health & Safety + Environment is exemplar
  • Supporting the Commissioning team during the various stages of commissioning delivery and plant implementation
  • Maintain the snagging list and progress the completion of all snags assigned
  • Support operation and maintenance activities until plant takeover
  • Support the 28‑day reliability test
  • Working with the client Asset Operations Team to ensure full integration with the existing assets
  • Ensure all Mechanical installation works meets the technical requirements of the project, including client specifications / Asset Standards and where applicable the Water Industry Mechanical and Mechanical Standards (WIMES)
  • Ensure that all the latest Galliford Try Mechanical processes and procedures are adhered to
  • Engage with specialist support functions including DSEAR, Technical Authors, Document Controllers to ensure early engagement and clear understanding of project needs and deliverables including timescales
  • Ensure coordination of Mechanical activities with Galliford Try / Subcontract resources to ensure that the project specific requirements and programme are met
  • Ensure regular MEICA / Commissioning programme updates are included within the main contract programme in collaboration with the planner, and that regular commissioning meetings are held at the necessary intervals
  • Witness testing of FAT’s as instructed by the Senior Mechanical Supervisor / MEICA Lead
  • Supervising / ensuring all mechanical testing in line with the Inspection and Test Plan
  • Ensuring all paperwork / records / inspection & test check forms are maintained, operation and maintenance information from subcontractors is passed onto the document control team.
  • Ensure all Mechanical snags and outstanding works are cleared with focus to ensure these are completed whilst the relevant contractors are on site
  • Ensure the team work in a safe manner, and all Galliford Try process and procedures are adhered to
About you:

Qualifications (or working towards):
  • HNC in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • CSCS or ECS card in a relevant discipline.
  • EUSR National Water Hygiene Card.
  • SSSTS (minimum requirement) SMSTS (preferred)
  • CompEx FxF or equivalent.
  • First Aid at Work (preferred)
  • DSEAR Awareness (preferred)
