Job Description:

Job Description

Are you a Mechanical Engineer with a background in analysis and design of piping systems and pressure equipment, who thrives on difficult problems? Are you drawn to complex design projects and excited by the opportunity to move into leadership roles, heading projects and guiding junior engineers?

If so, you might enjoy solving the energy industry’s pressure equipment design challenges across various clients. You could be designing cooling systems for safety-critical plant, emergency shutdown systems for nuclear reactors, qualifying pipework for fusion reactors, supporting UK Submarine and SMR programmes, or enabling renewable energy projects for a carbon net zero future. You’ll likely manage multiple projects simultaneously, so adaptability is essential. The core of this role involves tackling complex problems with innovative solutions for diverse clients.

In any energy-related project, you’ll deploy collaborative solutions to ensure safe and reliable plant operation, contributing significantly to future energy safety.

If you are a self-starter capable of managing multiple projects, working closely with clients and internal teams to understand requirements, set up projects, and deliver solutions right the first time, we encourage you to apply.

Role requirements:

You will work within small to medium multidisciplinary teams. To benefit from collective experience, you'll work in a collaborative office/site environment at least half of the week. You may also work at client sites. You should bring commercial awareness to effectively deliver tasks across multiple workstreams, on time, within quality standards, and budget.

  • Degree qualified mechanical engineer (or relevant qualification).
  • Experience in piping and pressure vessel design and stress analysis.
  • Experience in writing detailed technical reports (e.g., design substantiations, analysis basis, safety case references).
  • Ability to engage with clients, understand their issues, goals, and processes, and work effectively at their sites.

Preferred experience (but not mandatory):

  • Experience in safety-critical, regulated environments like nuclear power or decommissioning.
  • Chartered status or nearing application with a professional institute.
  • Experience with design codes such as ASME BPVC Section III, RCC-M, BS EN 13480, BS EN 13445.
  • Experience in automation tools, preferably in Python.
  • Experience in requirements capture, task specification, and bid writing.
  • Site support and installation supervision.
  • PESR and PSSR compliance experience.
