Job Description:

Job Description

Are you a Mechanical Engineer with a background in analysis and design of piping systems and pressure equipment, who thrives on difficult problems? Are you drawn to complex design projects and excited by the opportunity to rapidly move into leadership positions, heading projects and guiding junior engineers?

If so, you might enjoy solving the energy industry’s most important pressure equipment design conundrums across various clients. You could be designing systems for cooling safety-critical plant, emergency shutdown capabilities for nuclear reactors, qualifying pipework for fusion reactors, supporting UK Submarine and SMR programmes, or enabling renewable energy projects within a growing carbon net zero portfolio. You’ll likely juggle several projects simultaneously, so adaptability is essential. The constant is the complex nature of these jobs and the opportunity to provide innovative solutions for diverse clients.

In all energy-related projects, you'll deploy collaborative solutions to ensure safe, reliable plants—contributing significantly to the safety of our future energy supply.

If you are a self-starter capable of delivering multiple projects, working closely with clients and internal teams to capture requirements, set up projects, and deliver right-first-time solutions for challenging problems, then we encourage you to apply.

Role requirements:

You will work within small to medium multidisciplinary teams. To benefit from collective experience and foster innovative thinking, you'll work in a collaborative, supportive office/site environment at least half of your working week. You may also be based at client sites or plants. You should bring commercial awareness to effectively deliver tasks across multiple workstreams, ensuring delivery on time, within budget, and to quality standards.

  • Degree qualified mechanical engineer (or relevant qualification).
  • Experience in piping and pressure vessel design and stress analysis.
  • Experience in writing detailed, accurate technical reports (e.g., design substantiations, analysis basis, safety cases).
  • Ability to engage with existing and prospective clients, working at their sites, understanding their issues, goals, and processes.
Preferred experience (but not mandatory):
  • Experience in safety-critical, heavily regulated environments such as nuclear power generation/decommissioning.
  • Chartered status or nearing application with a relevant professional institute.
  • Experience with design codes like ASME BPVC Section III, RCC-M, BS EN 13480, BS EN 13445.
  • Experience in automation tools, preferably in Python.
  • Experience with requirements capture and task specification.
  • Experience in bid writing.
  • Site support and installation supervision.
  • PESR and PSSR compliance.
