Job Description:

This is a permanent position within the Site Services team at the Element Six Global Innovation Centre (GIC) in Harwell. The team supports activities at the GIC with facilities management, machine installations, maintenance, and repairs. It is a multi-skilled team covering disciplines such as electrical installations, machine maintenance, control systems, vacuum technology, hydraulics, and pneumatics.

We are looking to reinforce the team with an experienced mechanical-oriented engineer who enjoys hands-on installation and repair work, contractor management, project delivery, and supporting team leadership.

Duties and Tasks:

1. Fault finding and problem solving of equipment
2. Hands-on repairs, maintenance, and installation work
3. Contractor management, including inductions, safety plans, and performance evaluation
4. Project management for service, upgrades, and installations
5. Produce risk assessments, operating procedures, and equipment documentation; support team members in documentation
6. Review procedures, work practices, and maintenance plans for cost effectiveness
7. Demonstrate professionalism, quality awareness, and high safety standards
8. Actively seek to develop skills in breadth and depth

Qualifications:

• NVQ, HNC, B.Tec, or similar qualifications in an engineering discipline
• Proficient in upkeep and fault finding on mechanical and electro-mechanical systems, with additional skills in hydraulics, vacuum systems, and pneumatics preferred
• Experience in safe contractor management
• Understanding of health, safety, and quality standards; ability to carry out risk assessments and write high-standard operating procedures
• Good communication skills within a team, especially under pressure
• Good IT skills, including proficiency with office software and relevant data acquisition and processing software
