Qualifications

Senior Mechanical Engineer

Location: Risley, Warrington

Hybrid: Required in the office 3 days per week and 2 days remote

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our team. You will be responsible for delivering work packages across various system scopes for all three SEP machines, addressing mechanical handling and lifting challenges with innovative solutions. Your expertise will support the development of mechanical design solutions that are fit-for-purpose, within budget, schedule, and regulatory standards.


Key Responsibilities:

  1. Deliver mechanical design solutions for complex systems across multiple SEP machines, ensuring they are fit for purpose, on budget, and within schedule.
  2. Break down complex problems and present multiple resolution options, facilitating informed decision-making.
  3. Contribute to the production, delivery, and reporting of work plans and progress.
  4. Communicate effectively with stakeholders, verbally and in writing, to ensure clarity and alignment.
  5. Apply knowledge of machinery regulations (e.g., SOMSR 2008, CDM, PUWER, LOLER) to ensure compliance.
  6. Review and check engineering drawings, adhering to standards (e.g., BS 8888 & GPS).
  7. Review, understand, and challenge engineering calculations per standards (e.g., BS 2573).
  8. Support manufacturing specifications, including queries and issues.
  9. Contribute to EO packs, component quality requirements, and technical files, ensuring high standards.
  10. Produce and verify design substantiation and safety case deliverables, ensuring compliance with safety and engineering standards.

Essential Qualifications and Skills

  1. Chartered Engineer (CEng) or Incorporated Engineer (IEng) status.
  2. Experience delivering mechanical design solutions that meet cost and schedule targets.
  3. Strong problem-solving skills with practical solutions.
  4. Ability to contribute to work plans and reporting.
  5. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  6. Knowledge of machinery regulations (e.g., SOMSR 2008, CDM, PUWER, LOLER).
  7. Familiarity with engineering drawing standards (e.g., BS 8888, GPS).
  8. Ability to review and challenge engineering calculations (e.g., BS 2573).

Desirable Qualifications and Skills

  1. Evidence of engineering judgment and risk-based decisions.
  2. Experience creating manufacturing specifications and resolving queries.
  3. Knowledge of EO packs, component quality, and technical files.
  4. Experience producing and checking safety case deliverables.
  5. Understanding of European Health, Safety, and Environmental Requirements (EHSRs).
