Job summary

Mitie is seeking an experienced Mechanical Estimator to deliver complex mechanical installations across plantrooms and energy centres. Responsibilities include producing mechanical cost estimates, interpreting MEP drawings, and collaborating with stakeholders.

The ideal candidate has proven experience in mechanical estimating, a strong technical understanding of mechanical plant, and knowledge of low-carbon technologies. This role requires excellent communication skills and proficiency in estimating software.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a Mechanical Estimator in building services or energy infrastructure projects.
• Strong understanding of mechanical plant and ability to interpret MEP drawings.
• Knowledge of low-carbon technologies is desirable.

Job description

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Estimator to join our team delivering complex mechanical installations across plantrooms, energy centres, and large‑scale decarbonisation projects. The role involves estimating works that include heat pumps, chillers, gas boilers, distribution pipework, thermal stores, and associated mechanical plant for public and private‑sector clients.

Main Duties

• Produce detailed mechanical cost estimates for plantrooms, energy centres, and decarbonisation projects, including heat pumps, chillers, and boiler upgrades.
• Interpret drawings and specifications to develop accurate take-offs, cost breakdowns, and comprehensive tender packages.
• Source and evaluate supplier and subcontractor quotations, ensuring competitive pricing and full technical compliance.
• Assess project risks and opportunities, supporting value engineering and providing clear commercial recommendations.
• Collaborate with internal teams and clients through site visits, tender meetings, and bid submissions, while maintaining an up-to-date cost database for low‑carbon technologies.

What we are looking for

• Proven experience as a Mechanical Estimator within building services, M&E contracting, or energy infrastructure projects.
• Strong technical understanding of mechanical plant and the ability to interpret MEP drawings, schematics, and specifications.
• Solid commercial awareness with a good understanding of tendering processes and cost planning.
• Proficient in estimating software, Excel, and digital take‑off tools.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage stakeholders, plus desirable knowledge of low‑carbon technologies and relevant engineering qualifications (HNC/HND or degree).
