Job summary

Stantec is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our Water team across Edinburgh, Glasgow or Inverness. You will lead mechanical design for water and wastewater projects, mentor junior engineers and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver complex infrastructure solutions.

Essential qualifications include a Mechanical Engineering degree and Chartered or working towards CEng/IEng, plus UK water sector experience.

• CEng/IEng or working towards.
• Experience delivering mechanical engineering projects within UK water sector or other regulated infra.
• Strong understanding of water/wastewater treatment processes, pumping stations and mechanical systems.
• Experience leading technical delivery across multidisciplinary projects.
• Experience producing and reviewing technical calculations, specifications and documentation.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Experience mentoring junior engineers.

Working alongside industry-leading specialists within a collaborative multidisciplinary team, you'll lead complex mechanical engineering solutions, mentor developing engineers and contribute to projects that create lasting benefits for communities across Scotland.

ABOUT THE ROLE

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer , you will lead the delivery of mechanical engineering design across a range of infrastructure and non-infrastructure projects, supporting delivery from feasibility and optioneering through to detailed design, construction support and commissioning.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Leading mechanical design for water and wastewater treatment works, pumping stations and associated infrastructure.

• Producing and reviewing technical calculations, specifications, schedules and engineering documentation.

• Working collaboratively with Project Managers and multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated engineering solutions.

• Supporting site investigations, design reviews and construction activities where required.

• Providing technical guidance and mentoring to junior engineers.

• Building strong working relationships with clients, contractors and delivery partners to ensure successful project outcomes.

ABOUT YOU

Essential

• Degree qualified (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.

• Chartered or Incorporated Engineer (CEng/IEng) or actively working towards.

• Experience delivering mechanical engineering projects within the UK water sector or another regulated infrastructure environment.

• Strong understanding of water and wastewater treatment processes, pumping stations and mechanical systems.

• Experience leading technical delivery across multidisciplinary engineering projects.

• Experience producing and reviewing technical calculations, specifications and engineering documentation.

• Strong communication, stakeholder management and problem-solving skills.

• Experience mentoring or supporting the development of junior engineers.

Desirable

• Experience working collaboratively with contractors and delivery partners.

• Knowledge of digital engineering tools and modern methods of project delivery.

• Experience supporting framework delivery and client relationships.
