Stantec is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead the delivery of mechanical design across water and wastewater projects in Scotland, based in Glasgow with hybrid working. You will work with Scottish Water on major AMP8 initiatives, guiding feasibility through to detailed design and construction support, and mentoring junior engineers to strengthen the team.

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
• CEng/IEng or working towards.
• Experience delivering mechanical projects within the UK water sector or other regulated infrastructure.
• Strong understanding of water treatment processes, pumping stations and mechanical systems.
• Experience leading technical delivery across multidisciplinary projects.
• Experience producing and reviewing technical calculations and documentation.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Experience mentoring junior engineers.

About the Role

You will lead the delivery of mechanical engineering design across a range of infrastructure and non-infrastructure projects for Scottish Water, supporting delivery from feasibility and optioneering through to detailed design, construction support and commissioning. The role is based in our Glasgow office with hybrid working.

Your work will focus on water and wastewater treatment works, pumping stations and associated infrastructure. You will produce and review technical calculations, specifications, schedules and engineering documentation, and work closely with Project Managers and multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated solutions.

You will support site investigations, design reviews and construction activities where required, and build strong working relationships with clients, contractors and delivery partners.

You will also provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior engineers, helping to strengthen our Mechanical Engineering capability.

About You

Essential

• Degree qualified (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Chartered or Incorporated Engineer (CEng/IEng), or actively working towards.
• Experience delivering mechanical engineering projects within the UK water sector or another regulated infrastructure environment.
• Strong understanding of water and wastewater treatment processes, pumping stations and mechanical systems.
• Experience leading technical delivery across multidisciplinary engineering projects.
• Experience producing and reviewing technical calculations, specifications and engineering documentation.
• Strong communication, stakeholder management and problem-solving skills.
• Experience mentoring or supporting the development of junior engineers.

Desirable

• Experience working collaboratively with contractors and delivery partners.
• Knowledge of digital engineering tools and modern methods of project delivery.
• Experience supporting framework delivery and client relationships.
• Experience from adjacent regulated sectors such as energy, nuclear or utilities.
