Job Description

The salary for this role is £54,376 (inclusive of a Specialist Allowance). Onsite working is expected for 3 days each week; however, we actively support requests for flexible working. This role is based at the following site: Culham, Oxfordshire. Employees are required to complete an online Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS), including the Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) checks for criminal convictions and possibly a search of open source data.

As Senior Mechanical Engineer & Team Leader, you will play a pivotal role in providing line management, research and development, and project management, leading to proficiency in tritium, waste, and/or fusion fuel cycles.

Key Accountabilities:
  1. We are looking for a mechanical engineer with supplier engagement experience, capable of line managing a team.
  2. Line manage a team of capable mechanical engineers working on various projects, supporting their development, training, and wellbeing.
  3. Lead the engineering delivery of a Supplier Engineering Package, ensuring designs meet requirements and standards.
  4. Support the development of project strategies and prioritization, contributing technical expertise to shape project direction.
  5. Prepare and manage procurement specifications, including scope of work, bid evaluations, supplier document reviews, and technical queries.
  6. Oversee supplier interactions, including factory acceptance tests (FATs), change management, contract support, and compliance with technical control standards.

Requirements:

  • Degree or equivalent in mechanical engineering with demonstrable engineering experience.
  • Experience working on projects as a technical lead.
  • Experience line managing and coaching technical individuals.
  • Experience in building and leading technical teams.
  • Mentoring engineers and scientists.

Desirable:

  • Chartered status with a professional body (or equivalent demonstrable endorsement from peers).
  • Demonstrated experience in relevant technology or research field.
