Job description

Job title: Senior Mechanical Engineer (Power & Propulsion)

Salary: Up to £45,000 dependent on skills and experience

What you’ll be doing:

  • Participate in developing, maintaining, and modifying engineering processes and procedures in assigned areas in response to technical developments and operational needs.
  • Carry out specialist technical analyses and investigations, including evaluation and selection of technical options, and prepare reports with suggested recommendations to support problem resolution and engineering capability improvement.
  • Prepare specifications, develop designs in line with specifications and all quality and technical standards, and carry out design appraisals in assigned areas to ensure standards are maintained.
  • Investigate operational problems or developments and develop solutions, individually or as part of a project team.
  • Support the Principal Engineer as the specialist point of contact with customers and/or suppliers on engineering matters, to resolve problems and maintain awareness of priorities and objectives.
  • Assist in identifying business opportunities and preparing bids in areas of expertise to develop high-quality proposals.
  • Provide guidance to less experienced team members to support their effective working and development.
  • Make engineering decisions within your sphere of responsibility.

Your skills and experiences:

  • Extensive experience in an engineering or marine-related industry.
  • Degree qualified in a STEM discipline or substantial mechanical experience in the marine industry.
  • Proficiency in communication and software applications like MS Office, AutoCAD, Foran, etc.
  • Experience with Marine Propulsion equipment design or work.

Engineers should possess an engineering or related STEM qualification and be recognized as Incorporated or Chartered Engineers. Support for achieving professional accreditation will be provided. Preference is given to candidates already professionally registered.

Our Power & Propulsion Team:

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer in Power & Propulsion, you will support naval ship construction for the Royal Navy, including equipment installation and commissioning on ships, within a small, specialized team engaged in multiple ship programs and export contracts.
