Job summary

Babcock is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer for its Devonport Dockyard site in Plymouth. You will lead complex mechanical handling and dockside design packages, ensuring safe, high-quality solutions across the project lifecycle.

The role requires experience in regulated industries, strong leadership, and the ability to mentor teams while coordinating with stakeholders. HC clearance and hybrid onsite presence are expected.

Qualifications

• Experience leading complex engineering projects involving cranes, mechanical handling systems and infrastructure.
• Experience managing crane safety, protection systems and integration with existing assets and controls.
• Experience delivering mechanical and electrical integration activities across multidisciplinary projects.
• Experience in highly regulated sectors such as defence, nuclear, marine or heavy engineering.

Responsibilities

• Lead multidisciplinary mechanical handling and dockside design packages.
• Manage technical requirements, risks, interfaces and deliverables across the project lifecycle.
• Review calculations, drawings and documentation to ensure fitness for purpose.
• Drive design reviews and optioneering to achieve safe, cost-effective solutions.
• Mentor engineers and coordinate suppliers and stakeholders for successful outcomes.
