Job Description :
The purpose of this role is to be responsible for the design, development, and implementation of entire machines or instruments, including mechanical systems and sub-systems, from concept to production.
Key Responsibilities:
- Concept generation of machines and mechanical systems using relevant tools and techniques, and communicating these concepts to team members and stakeholders.
- Detailed design development of machines and systems, involving in-depth design work and communication of solutions.
- Verification of machines and mechanical systems, including material selection, failure mode prediction, and design for assembly, manufacturing, and serviceability.
- Creating technical specifications based on product/system criteria, specifying components and systems.
- Generating CAD models, drawings, and assembly instructions using 3D CAD software like Creo.
- Testing, building, and validating designs through prototyping and manufacturing techniques, leading experiments, and documenting results.
- Ensuring compliance with safety, environmental standards, and legislation related to machinery design.
- Documenting designs, experiments, manuals, and safety documentation to high standards.
- Identifying, communicating, and mitigating mechanical risks, and supporting post-development activities.
- Mentoring junior engineers, supporting standards development, acting as technical project lead, and potentially performing line management duties.
Qualifications :
- BEng/BSc in mechanical or related engineering discipline (minimum)
- MSc/MEng preferred
- Significant experience in mechanical design and product lifecycle development
- Experience with complex mechanical systems, electro-mechanical systems, high-speed mechanics, and machinery
- Knowledge of global safety and environmental standards
- Proficiency in 3D CAD (Creo or similar), Windchill PLM, and rapid prototyping techniques
- Strong communication, leadership, teamwork, and project management skills
