Job summary

CBG Consultants Ltd in Cambridge is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead mechanical services design with a focus on efficiency and building physics. The role is hybrid, working with teams in London, Oxford and Cambridge under senior engineers and project leaders.

The successful candidate will mentor junior staff, manage project workflows, bid for new work and contribute to fee proposals, QA, and client communications across sectors.

Qualifications

• A degree in a relevant subject is required.
• 3-5 years' relevant experience in building services design.
• Experience mentoring junior team members.
• Project experience across sectors.
• Technical knowledge of mechanical design software and AutoCad.
• Strong organisation and prioritisation skills; own transport and driving licence.

Responsibilities

• Oversee engineers and technicians and mentor staff.
• Manage project workflows, milestones and QA standards.
• Bid for new work and draft fee proposals as you progress.
• Design mechanical services and supervise on-site installations.

CBG are an ambitious practice of building services consultants with offices in Oxford, London, Manchester, and Cambridge. We specialise in maximising the efficiency of buildings, through optimising fabric with efficient mechanical and electrical design solutions.

The opportunity.

Due to our continued growth, we are currently looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our Cambridge team. The role is hybrid working.

You will work closely with colleagues across our London, Oxford and Cambridge offices. All under the guidance of your line manager, Principal Engineers, and project leaders.

We are looking for an exceptional candidate who has confidence in the design of mechanical services and efficiency in design software.

You will be responsible for the oversight of engineers and technicians, including the mentoring and training of other staff; the management of project workflows and milestones; and adherence to internal Quality Assurance standards. As you progress, you will gain experience in bidding for new work, drafting fee proposals and project financial management.

What will you do?

You will be working closely with other team members seeing projects through from inception to completion and handover.

Duties will include (but are not limited to):

• Feasibility studies
• Specifications
• On-site supervision
• Contract administration
• Management of mechanical services installations

What we are looking for.

• A degree in a relevant subject
• Minimum 3-5 years relevant experience in building services design
• Experience in managing and mentoring junior team members
• Project experience across different sectors of the industry
• Thorough technical knowledge of mechanical design software and AutoCad
• Accurate, good organisational, and prioritisation skills
• Own transport and driving license
  • Competent in using Microsoft Office
• Design and modelling software, previous experience (full training will be provided)
• Knowledge and Revit experience an advantage
