Job summary

iO Associates in the Southampton area is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead the mechanical design of complex machinery, delivering CAD models and drawings in Solid Edge. This onsite role offers up to £60k and a benefits package.

You will work closely with electrical engineers to ensure integrated systems, manage suppliers and produce BOMs, design calculations and risk assessments for safe, compliant equipment in demanding sectors.

Qualifications

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
• Experience designing industrial machinery or bespoke process equipment.
• Strong 3D CAD experience, particularly Solid Edge, with good understanding of 2D drafting.
• Experience with materials, manufacturing processes and DFMA principles.
• Knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics and drive systems; stepper and servo motors is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Lead the mechanical design of complex machinery and develop CAD models and detailed drawings using Solid Edge.
• Design bespoke machinery components, including frames, enclosures and structural elements, ensuring they meet performance and safety requirements.
• Develop material handling systems, including loading, unloading, fixturing and operator interaction.
• Work closely with electrical engineers to ensure effective mechanical integration of electrical and RF equipment.
• Manage suppliers, contract manufacturers and external vendors to deliver designs to specification and quality standards.
• Produce technical documentation including BOMs, design calculations and risk assessments.

Our client is a specialist engineering business designing and manufacturing bespoke machinery and equipment for a range of demanding sectors. Due to continued growth and investment in advanced manufacturing capabilities, they are looking for an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to join their team.

This is a key technical role, with responsibility for leading mechanical design activities and contributing to product development, safety and compliance.
