About The Role

WGM Engineering, part of RSK Group, is looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our Electrical & Mechanical (E&M) Services team on a permanent, full-time basis. This role will be site based across the Central Belt of Scotland.

WGM Engineering is experiencing significant growth across the UK delivering critical infrastructure projects across the water, utilities and infrastructure sectors. As part of RSK Group, we combine the scale and support of a wider group with the practical, hands on approach of a specialist engineering delivery business.

Our teams work with major clients across regulated environments, supporting safe, sustainable and high-quality project delivery. We are focused on building long-term capability, strengthening our teams and creating opportunities for people to build meaningful careers.

As Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will lead the safe, efficient and high quality delivery of WGM’s mechanical field teams across water, utilities and essential infrastructure projects. You will provide visible day-to-day leadership to engineers, technicians, subcontractors and site teams, ensuring planned and reactive works are properly resourced, clearly communicated and delivered safely, on time and to the required technical and quality standards. To support you in the role, you’ll be provided with a company van and fuel card

Working closely with project and operational teams, you will coordinate field resources, drive productivity and performance, and ensure teams have the information and support needed to deliver right-first-time outcomes. The role combines operational leadership, technical support and delivery coordination, requiring a confident site-based leader who can resolve challenges, manage performance, support commissioning and maintenance activities, and maintain strong HSEQ and customer standards.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Provide visible day-to-day leadership across WGM’s mechanical, electrical and MEICA teams, setting clear expectations for safety, productivity, quality, performance and customer service.
  • Lead, coach and develop Chargehands, Field Engineers, technicians and subcontractors, supporting competence, performance, accountability and succession planning.
  • Oversee installation, maintenance, repair, testing and commissioning activities, ensuring compliance with WGM procedures, RAMS, permits, technical standards and HSEQ requirements.
  • Plan and coordinate labour, subcontractors, materials, plant and technical resources, working with project and planning teams to deliver programmes, milestones and priorities effectively.
  • Build strong relationships with clients and operational teams, identify and resolve site constraints, manage delivery risks and provide clear reporting on progress, resources, quality and performance.
What You’ll Bring
  • A recognised qualification in mechanical engineering or a related engineering discipline at HNC, HND or degree level, or an equivalent vocational qualification supported by substantial relevant industry experience.
  • Previous experience working in a senior field-engineering, maintenance-supervision, engineering-supervision or comparable operational leadership role.
  • Experience leading and coordinating field-based engineering, maintenance, installation or service-delivery teams, and managing employee performance
  • Experience allocating and coordinating labour, subcontractors, plant, materials, equipment and workload across multiple work fronts.
  • Confidence working with Project Managers, Project Engineers, planners and support functions to coordinate field delivery.
  • The ability to monitor operational performance against programmes, service levels, compliance periods, workstream objectives or KPIs.
  • Experience working within health, safety, environmental and quality requirements, including RAMS, permits and safe systems of work.
