Job summary

Mott MacDonald Bentley is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to contribute to UK water projects, driving design from concept to commissioning and ensuring integration of all mechanical aspects across projects.

You will work primarily in the UK water market, delivering feasibility, design, construction and commissioning services to keep water flowing and wastewater treated, with a focus on environment and communities.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • Chartered or Incorporated member of a relevant institution or equivalent experience.
  • Clear communication with team and stakeholders.
  • Methodical approach to problem solving.
  • Valid driving licence and willingness to travel to sites.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the mechanical design of water and wastewater infrastructure through the design lifecycle.
  • Coordinate with Electrical, Civil, Geotech and Process designers to deliver on programme and budget.
  • Collaborate with commercial and construction teams to develop safe, practical solutions.
  • Engage with the client to support project aims and foster a one-team approach.
  • Support development of the mechanical engineering team and mentor engineers.

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer you will contribute to projects that significantly impact our environment and communities. Working primarily in the UK water market, MMB provides the feasibility, design, construction, and commissioning services needed to keep water flowing and wastewater treated. You’ll work on projects that make a real difference to our environment and our communities by enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of water and wastewater treatment systems.

You will play a pivotal role in shaping the mechanical functions throughout the lifecycle of various projects. From concept design to commissioning, you will ensure that all mechanical aspects are meticulously considered and integrated.

The role of a Senior Mechanical Engineer includes:
  • Lead the mechanical design of water and wastewater infrastructure and non‑infrastructure projects through the outline and detailed design, construction, commissioning, and handover, including, but not limited to, P&IDs, valve schedules, pump calculations, defining safe access and lifting arrangements, above ground pipework layouts, etc.
  • Coordinate with the project team comprising of Electrical, Civil, Geotech and Process designers and ensure designs are completed on programme, within budget, and to the quality defined by framework specifications
  • Working closely and collaboratively with the commercial, operational and construction teams to develop efficient, practical and safe solutions throughout design stages, construction and beyond
  • Positively engage with the client, managing relationships and adopting a one‑team approach to supporting them in achieving their aims
  • Supporting the development of the mechanical engineering team, coaching and mentoring engineers to develop their skill set and identifying the correct resource for the projects
What you’ll need:
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related field
  • Chartered or incorporated member of professional institution e.g. ICE, IMechE, etc, or equivalent experience
  • Ability to communicate effectively with team members and stakeholders
  • Methodical approach to problem solving
  • A valid driving licence and willingness to travel to sites across your operational region
