Job Description
My Client is recruiting for a Senior Mechanical Engineer in the Water Sector. They are looking to strengthen their engineering team with a Senior Mechanical Engineer based out of Bristol or Exeter offices, with hybrid working available. You will report directly to the Principal Engineer or Regional Discipline Lead, and your role will be to provide high-quality Engineering Design services to minimize risks and maximize profits on turnkey and engineering services contracts.
You will coordinate the design and produce design documents and drawings, taking into account health and safety requirements, specifications, and standards related to the contract.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Produce design layouts that are cost-effective, meet the specification requirements, and can be constructed and commissioned effectively.
- Consider all costs associated with the design and subsequent construction, including design time, material, erection, and the impact on other disciplines to ensure cost-effectiveness.
- Utilize standard practices where possible to maintain competitiveness.
- Provide estimates and feedback for the Proposals department.
- Follow procedures and processes to ensure the department's ongoing development.
- Assist in developing, monitoring, and reviewing procedures and processes to improve departmental efficiency.
- Coordinate designs with all other disciplines, both internal and external, to ensure integrated contract execution.
- Maintain files and records throughout the contract duration.
- Ensure customer satisfaction by aligning with a culture that values customer needs as key to achieving objectives.
- Maintain a personal development plan.
- Assist in supervising and developing staff.
- Ensure a safe working environment for all staff.
- Minimize waste from departmental activities.
- Design with consideration for environmental issues.
- Ensure all designs comply with health and safety requirements.
Experience and Qualifications:
- Significant experience in technical delivery of process plant systems on complex water industry engineering projects.
- Understanding of water and sewage treatment principles.
- Experience in managing and mentoring staff involved in designing water and sewage treatment plants.
- Membership of a professional institution, chartered or nearing chartership.
Preferable:
- Relevant discipline Engineering degree.
- Minimum of relevant discipline Engineering HND.
- Ability to rationalize designs and produce economical plant layouts.
- Good knowledge of all aspects of water treatment, including mechanical, process, electrical engineering, and project management.
- Flexible mindset capable of managing large data sets.
- Ability to present technical proposals clearly and convincingly.
- Computer literacy.
- Valid driving license.
