As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you have a passion for problem-solving, but engineering to you is more than just fixing and resolving – it's a mindset; it's a journey. From a product's design concept through to completion, you thrive on overcoming difficulties and orchestrating efficiencies.

At Oxford Instruments Nanoscience, you'll be stepping into this role representing an established brand and a premium provider of high-value, high-complexity products that enable cutting-edge research and spearhead the breakthroughs of tomorrow.

From cryogenic instrumentation to quantum computing, our business is a home for those who love to learn and will relish the challenge of new products that push the limits of engineering capability and technical possibility.

Do you offer?

  • Four or more years' experience leading mechanical engineering product designs from concept to completion
  • Experience designing an entire system/product – not just individual components
  • DFMEA, DFM, DFA, DFS experience
  • VoC and H&S focused design approach

As a member of our NPI team, you'll be a go-to authority for sign-offs and a leader for new system-level and platform-level development in line with the business's product roadmap.

You'll manage full product lifecycles, typically involving pressured vessels and vacuum devices. Interacting with cryogenics and system engineers, you'll guide the journey through concept design, modeling, design for manufacture, testing, production, installation, and service.

Going forward, you'll be empowered to challenge existing mechanical principles and practices as well as implement configuration and standard interface definitions as we evolve to managing all designs in a modular format.

Why Oxford Instruments?

You'll be joining a team of experts; Oxford Instruments is packed with scientific specialists and PhD-qualified professionals. There are no egos, just a shared passion for collective growth. You learn something new every day. If you love science and physics, you'll feel like a kid in a candy shop.

As an established brand and a premium provider, Oxford Instruments is renowned for high-quality product performance. Our customers praise our service. Our staff are proud of their achievements and the future. Our team has long service awards.

Based on-site with minimal travel, you'll work in a modern office in picturesque woodland. This engineering site is not a metallic maze or a dull factory; imagine tall trees, fresh air, pinecones, bluebells, and group runs. This is work, not Center Parcs, honest!

  • Benefits include 25 days' annual leave plus bank holidays, private medical insurance, group pension plan, and more
  • A structured career ladder and progression support; good potential to advance to Principal level
  • Full training on our design software and products
