Arup’s Mechanical and Electrical team in the Infrastructure Midlands Group provides design and project management services to internal and external clients. The team is involved in a wide range of projects across the electricity, water utilities, renewable energy, and environmental sectors.

The Opportunity

Our projects span feasibility, outline and concept design, construction support, project engineering, and project management services for our clients across areas such as:

  • Water – water and wastewater treatment, pumping stations, reservoirs, water distribution
  • Energy – offshore wind, electricity interconnectors, CHP, waste-to-energy
  • Power – LV control and distribution
  • Industrial Clients – small to medium scale power generation, steam generation, and related services

Our Mechanical Engineers apply their specialist skills to infrastructure projects worldwide. We offer a broad spectrum of expertise and consulting services.

As Arup continues to focus on digital transformation, we combine digital and data capabilities with our traditional engineering and design strengths to solve complex problems more efficiently and introduce new ways of working in this digital age.

Is this role right for you?

In this role, you will work with team members to deliver effective and professional services to our clients. Due to the multi-disciplinary nature of our design teams, you will have opportunities to collaborate with specialists.

We are looking for candidates with:

  • Experience in mechanical engineering design within the utility sector, working with client organizations, consultants, or contractors
  • A Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (advantageous but not essential)
  • On track to become chartered with IMechE
  • Good understanding of CAD and BIM
  • Coding skills (an advantage)

This position is based in our Birmingham office and involves collaboration within a vertically integrated mechanical and electrical engineering team across Arup offices in Leeds and Cardiff.
