A leading company in the engineering sector is seeking a Senior Mechanical Designer to focus on the THORP Cooling Towers Dosing System Project. Qualifications

Job description

Senior Mechanical Designer

Location: Cumbria

Type: Permanent / Contract

Job Description

Delivery of Mechanical asset care scope across a portfolio of projects, initially focusing on the THORP Cooling Towers Dosing System Project. This involves specifying a new COTS dosing skid and designing a piping system to integrate the skid into the existing Cooling Tower infrastructure.

Produce engineering design work packages (specifications, drawings, analysis, verification, or assessment of engineering) that meet legal and functional requirements, along with performance conditions, within the agreed time, cost, and quality standards.

Qualifications
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering with at least 2 years’ design delivery experience, or
  • HNC/HND with over 5 years’ design delivery experience

Experience in highly regulated industries, preferably nuclear, with a proven track record of delivering safe, fit-for-purpose, fully integrated, and operable design solutions.

Qualified and experienced user of AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor, and Autodesk Vault.

Experience producing key design deliverables such as product requirement specifications, technical reports, calculations, technical drawings & layouts, installation method statements, risk assessments, and design substantiation.

Mechanical piping design experience with knowledge of standards like ASME B31.3, PER, PSSR.

Familiarity with machine design and mechanical handling legislation, including the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations, LOLER, and PUWER.

Knowledge of British and ISO standards.

Strong stakeholder liaison skills across technical and non-technical backgrounds.

Experience working in multi-disciplinary, integrated design teams.

Skilled in peer reviewing reports, proposal & detail drawings, and supporting calculations.
