RPS has over 20 years of collaboration with United Utilities on innovative water projects. As we approach AMP8, this is an exciting phase for the water industry, offering opportunities to create positive environmental impacts.

Under this 10-year framework, RPS will optimize programs, develop solutions, and select the best options based on value, carbon footprint, and cost, aiming to deliver exceptional water services and foster a resilient, eco-friendly Northwest.

About The Team:

Our programs include leading initiatives into AMP8 and beyond, ensuring long-term career stability and impactful contributions to the water sector.

About You:

You should have experience in producing technical outputs such as specifications, pump and aeration system designs, schedules, and reports. Familiarity with collaborative planning, design reviews, and safety standards like HAZOPs and ALMs is essential.

You will collaborate on design outputs, including General Arrangement Drawings, 3D models, and P&ID diagrams, and have strong communication skills for technical presentations and discussions.

Understanding of water and wastewater treatment processes and the ability to assess existing infrastructure for mechanical design development are required.

Joining us means working on impactful projects with leading organizations, contributing to the community, and leaving a lasting legacy in the water industry. We seek passionate professionals eager to make a difference.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Work on various projects within major frameworks across the UK water sector.
  • Support project delivery alongside Senior and Principal Engineers.
  • Mentor junior team members.
  • Understand technical drawings using AutoCAD or Inventor.
  • Undertake asset condition surveys and produce reports.
  • Contribute to P&ID creation and mechanical design deliverables, including calculations, reports, specifications, and procurement docs.
  • Support compliance with CDM duties and produce risk assessments.
  • Follow Quality Assurance procedures.

Skills, Knowledge, and Experience:

  • Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles.
  • Water industry experience is a plus.
  • Knowledge of pump design, P&ID creation, specifications, and safety regulations.
  • Experience with contract procurement methods, including NEC/ECC.
  • Ability to manage work within time, cost, and quality constraints.
  • Supportive of junior staff development.
  • Willingness to travel and inspect sites, operate equipment, and witness tests.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD or similar software is advantageous but not essential.

Qualifications:

  • An IMechE-accredited degree; postgraduate qualifications are a plus.
  • Chartered or working towards chartership.
  • Membership or near membership with professional bodies like IET, InstMC, or CIWEM.

What’s in it for you?

We offer personal development plans, clear career pathways, and a supportive environment that values diversity, ideas, and wellbeing. Join us to make a meaningful impact and build a lasting legacy in the water sector.
