Job summary

Fortress Recruit is supporting a Defence Manufacturing business in Poole to recruit an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer. This hands-on role covers the full product lifecycle, developing and modernising complex mechanical hardware including racks, cabinets and enclosures.

You will work across disciplines, applying DFM/ DFA and contributing to qualification testing, FMEA and continuous improvement. A Mechanical Engineering degree with Chartered status or progress toward it is required, with

Qualifications

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent with Chartership or pursuing it.
• Extensive mechanical design experience in complex engineering/manufacturing environments.
• Experience taking designs from concept through to manufacture and product support.
• Proficiency in DFM/ DFA and design for manufacturability.

Responsibilities

• Develop mechanical designs from concept through to manufacture.
• Modernise legacy products and support product lifecycle.
• Produce drawings, models and technical documentation.
• Support design reviews and sign-off.
• Apply DFM and DFA principles for cost-effective designs.
• Support qualification testing and FMEA.
